“The greatest fashion designer of the 20th century, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, died suddenly in her suite at the swish Hotel Ritz in Paris half a century ago this week.” – @indiatimes⠀
⠀
She passed away at 9:00 pm on January 10th, 1971 to be exact.⠀
⠀
The more I learn about the woman behind the mega fashion brand, the more I feel connected to her and her story. ⠀
⠀
I remember drawing fashion sketches when I was little, of slender women in dresses and chic clothing, and also just having this absolute undeniable draw to Paris throughout my life…⠀
⠀
“Coco” Chanel was the creator of the “little black dress”, freeing women from Victorian corsetry, the tweed suits and Chanel No.5 you know today, a lasting legacy from a women with humble beginnings in a French orphanage.
⠀
History and the lessons of the past are never far, but I think a little piece of advice from Chanel we could all use right now is:⠀
⠀
“If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack.”
